BANGALORE:  Unable to bear the alleged dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, a police constable’s wife ended her life by  hanging herself. The incident occurred at the police quarters on Magadi Road on Monday        afternoon.The deceased has been identified as Jayalakshmi (22). She was the wife of Sridhar, a police constable of Ashoknagar police station. Sridhar is a native of  Doddamudugere village of Ramanagaram district while Jayalakshmi’s parents stay at Kamalanagar. The couple had married about two-and-a-half-years ago.  The police said that   Jayalakshmi had committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence when her husband and in-laws were away. The incident came to light when they returned in the afternoon.In his complaint to the police, Jayalakshmi’s father has alleged that Sridhar and his family members used to harass his daughter for more dowry. “At the time of marriage, gold and cash were given to Sridhar. But we were not able to give him the bike as promised. Due to this, he and his family members harassed Jayalakshmi for dowry. Just a few months after the marriage, they had sent back Jayalakshmi. Depressed by that she had tried to commit suicide,” the  complaint stated.Further it is alleged that after a few months Sridhar took her back along with him and again allegedly harassed her for dowry and this had led to the suicide. He    has levelled allegations against Sridhar, his mother  Jayamma, sister Indiramma and brother Kumar.Magadi Road police have registered a case of  unnatural death and are            further investigating.
