KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the Irrigation Department to ensure that the waste accumulated in the Pampa River was removed and the natural flow of the river maintained.A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice C T Ravikumar observed that merely releasing water from the Kunnar dam and other areas into the Pampa would not be sufficient to flush out the waste from the river. The court directed the department to carry out the directions from March 22 and complete the work within 10 days. The court emphasised the need for taking up the work urgently, in view of the Vishu pilgrimage, starting from March 25.“The festival season will then lead to the Vishu pilgrimage, which is bound to attract a large number of devotees. Therefore, the management of affairs in relation to the Sannidhanam, Pampa and Erumeli, should be geared up, as was done during the Mandala Makaravilakku season,” the court held.
