HYDERABAD: Justice B Seshasayana Reddy of the High Court on Wednesday granted dispensation to opposition leader and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu from appearing in person before the lower court on February 9 in connection with a cheating case registered against him on separate Telangana issue. The judge postponed his decision on a criminal petition filed by Chandrababu Naidu to Monday with a plea for quashing of the proceedings pending in the XI Metropolitan Magistrate, Cyberabad in Ranga Reddy district and to grant stay of all further proceedings which include appearance in the lower court which issued summons to the accused (Naidu) to appear on Feb 9.
After hearing the arguments, justice Seshasayana Reddy, before granting relief to the TDP leader, postponed his decision on the matter till Monday (Feb 13).Naidu's counsel M Padmanabha Reddy said that the ingredients mentioned in the complaint registered at the Chaitanyapuri police station against the accused (Naidu) did not attract Section 420 of IPC. There was no evidence to prove that the accused had cheated the people of Telangana since his party (TDP) had lost the 2009 election and cannot implement the issue (to support formation of Telangana state) mentioned in election manifesto. There was no truth in the allegation that the TDP took a Uturn on statehood. In reality, all political parties in the state were vertically divided on the contentious Telangana issue, he said and urged the court to quash the proceedings pending against the TDP leader.
