KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday rejected the state government plea for vacating the stay on the special court order directing the Vigilance to conduct further probe into the palmolein case. Instead, Justice K T Shankaran extended the stay period for two weeks. The HC had earlier stayed a Vigilance Court order for one month while considering a petition by the fifth accused and senior IAS officer Jiji Thomson seeking to quash the court order which directed to find out the involvement of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the Palmolein deal. The hearing of the case has been posted for October 31.Appearing for the state government, Advocate-General K P Dandapani requested that if interim stay would be vacated, the state can go ahead with the investigation. To which the court said that without hearing the objections, it cannot arrive at a decision.Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, BJP national executive member Alphons Kannanthanam and All Indian Lawyers Union president E K Narayanan had earlier filed applications to get impleaded in the case. The objections and the arguments of the petitioners will be considered on October 31.Meanwhile, Advocate T M Subhas has filed a petition to the Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge seeking a directive to supervise and monitor further investigation into the case.
