BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court on Friday asked the state government if it would give the jobs of physical education teachers to those who have not completed PUC but have a particular equivalent qualification. The HC was hearing the petition filed by those who have completed Certified Course in Physical Education (CPED) after doing Job- Oriented Courses (JOCs) but have not completed PU education. The state government had disqualified such candidature for the posts of physical education teachers because they have not completed PU education. The HC on Friday asked Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Tushar Girinath, the reason for which the state government has disqualified these candidates even though both the state government and the HC had recognised JOCs as equivalent to PUC.The bench asked the commissioner to clarify whether or not the government would give jobs to these candidates. The court said it needed to know this to be able to pass an order in the case. Further hearing was adjourned to June 20.The petitioners have contended that neither when they joined CPED nor when they appeared for the entrance exam (in June 2007) for the posts of physical education teachers did the state government tell them that those without PU education were not eligible for the job. They were informed about the criterion just before the interview.
