HYDERABAD: The High Court has sought a report from the Cherlapally jail authorities on death of a 25-year-old Vishal Singh when he was in judicial custody.A division bench comprising justice VVS Rao and justice G.Krishna Mohan Reddy issued notices to the authorities concerned and directed them to produce the postmortem report in the court. It posted the case to Monday for hearing.Vishal Singh, a resident of Balramgalli in Dhoolpet area of the Old City of Hyderabad, was arrested by the prohibition and excise sleuths on December 8 last near Rahimpura Ground on charges of trading in illicit liquor. He was sent to judicial remand on the next day and was lodged in the Cherlapally central jail. He fell ill in the prison and was admitted to the Gandhi Hospital on December 12. He died on the same day while undergoing treatment. The High Court took up the matter, taking cognisance of a letter written by the mother of the deceased alleging that his son lost his life due to inaction in providing proper medical care even though he had complained of injuries on several parts of his body. She further alleged that Vishal was tortured using third-degree methods by the excise constables on December 8 that led to his death. She complained to the court that the duty medical officer of the hospital issued medical certificate without examining the deceased. She urged the Court to take action against the authorities responsible for the death of her son.
