Health, Tourism Ministers join Pongal festival

VELLORE: A Pongal Vizha was organised by the department of tourism at the Periyar Poonga on Tuesday. Health minister Dr Vijay, minister for backward welfare Mohamed Jon and collector S Nagarajan were the chief guests on the occasion. Local women had organised the preparation of Pongal in earthen pots while artistes from across the district performed folk music and dance shows like karagattam, mayilattam and poikkalkudirai. The minister gave away prizes to student winners who had participated in various competitions organised by the tourism department.Mayor Karthiyayini, deputy mayor Dharmalingam and tourism officer Rajadurai were present during the celebrations.
