The hike could amount to nearly three times their current emoluments.A bill to increase the salaries and perks drawn by the chief minister, deputy chief minister, ministers, leader of the opposition in the Assembly and Council and the chief whip has been introduced in the Legislative Assembly and is likely to be passed in the current budget session. Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana introduced the Bill --the Andhra Pradesh Payment of Salaries and Pension and Removal of Disqualifications (Amendment) Bill, 2012 -- on behalf of the chief minister.Salaries and allowances paid to these functionaries were last enhanced in 2000. As there has been a substantial increase in the cost of living since then, the government agreed to bring the wages up to par. But before doing so, it studied the salaries and perks paid to their counterparts in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra. The estimated burden on the state exchequer due to this is Rs 25 crore inclusive of travel and dearness allowances.
