Hyderabad-Karnataka region demands better representation

Despite several cases of human rights violations being reported from the region, SHRC has no representatives from this area, Patil said that the issue would be discussed during  Tuesday’s Horata Committee meeting.Referring to other constitutional bodies including KPSC, Patil said that only three members had represented the region in past 60 years. The Nanjundappa Committee on regional balance, which had submitted a comprehensive report on the backwardness of the H-K region consisting Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Yadagir, Bellary and Koppal, has also strongly recommended the state government to give representation to the region in appointing key posts. The Horata Samithi president threatened to launch an agitation on the matter.Meanwhile the president of the Hyderabad-Karnataka Area Development Board (HKADB) president Amarnath Patil also endorsed the Patil’s view and said that he has already raised the issue with the Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar recently.Patil told Express that the matter had come for debate during the BJP leaders meeting with Shettar and the latter had shown positive response.first published:August 14, 2012, 10:21 ISTlast updated:August 14, 2012, 10:21 IST
