New Delhi: He burst onto the scene with 'Band Baaja Baraat' and his second film 'Ladies Vs Ricky Behl' also did well, but actor Ranveer Singh, who is working on Anurag Kashyap's 'Lootera' now, says he is not the next big thing in Bollywood.
"People started calling me the next big thing after 'Band Baaja Baaraat' but I don't take such things seriously. By no means am I the next big thing and I don't allow such notions to get into my head. It is the end of an actor if he starts believing himself to be big. I have a long way to go. Sky is the limit," Ranveer told PTI.
Playing a Haryanvi boy Bittoo in his first film, he risked getting stereotyped but managed to change that with the suave Ricky in his subsequent film. The 26-year-old now wants to show his versatility as an actor.
"I want to have a wide range and frankly for me the most important thing was to break the image of 'Bittoo Sharma'. A year ago when I had spoken on stage at an awards show, Abhinav Kashyap ('Dabangg' director) said to me that he was surprised I could speak in English. "He said that Bittoo Sharma had become such a cult character that despite being a filmmaker himself, he was forced to believe that I was playing my real self onscreen."
Even though Ranveer is proud of the compliments, he doesn't want to stick to the winning formula.
"Compliments does boost your ego, but is also a scary situation to be in as you don't want to shy away from doing anything different. I have just started my career and can't afford to stick to the winning formula," he said.
Ranveer says he is being offered many films, but he has decided to do one at a time even though he is at an early stage in his career.
"I try to do things step by step and now that I am doing 'Lootera', my second film would have to wait. I do one film at a time and then move on to the next. If I had to follow a different model, I could have already blocked my date diary
for next six years and feel content.
"However, I want to have that space available in my calendar so that tomorrow if 2-3 good films suddenly come up, I can accommodate accordingly instead of worrying about my earlier commitments," he said.
