KOCHI: The special investigation team (SIT) has completed the probe into the ice-cream parlour case and the report will be submitted before the Kerala High Court on Monday. The Director General of Police (DGP) Jacob Punnoose and investigating officer DySP Jaison K Abraham discussed the case, involving the Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty and his brother-in-law K A Rauf, with advocate general K P Dandapani at the AG’s office in High Court on Saturday. The second Marad case have also come up for evaluation at the meeting. After the two-hour-long discussion the DGP said that the State Government would inform it’s stand on Tuesday on the transfer of investigating officer who was probing into the element of conspiracy in the Marad communal carnage. The police officials also said that the investigation report in the ice-cream parlour case would be submitted in a sealed cover.“As many as 135 witnesses were examined and 115 documents were seized. Though the key witnesses were asked to undergo a polygraph test, they turned down the demand,” the police officials said. The charges against Kunhalikutty and Rauf were that they had entered into a criminal conspiracy with several others to get the former excluded from the case registered at Nadakkavu police station in Kozhikode. The duo had allegedly undermined the process of investigation as well as the trial by influencing the witnesses as well as the judiciary. The police report was in response to a petition filed by Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan seeking a CBI probe into the case, based on a series of fresh revelations. He alleged that the probe by the SIT was not effective. The police had earlier submitted that former HC Justice K Thankappan and Justice Narayana Kurup, former state attorney P C Iype, former ADGP K C Peter and Kozhikode Mayor T P Dasan were questioned in this regard. Iype and Peter were interrogated after there were allegations that the duo acted as mediators to influence the judiciary.According to Achuthanandan, during the last seven months no investigation was done in the case. A few months ago, Rauf had told mediapersons in Kozhikode that Kunhalikutty had used him and money power to influence witnesses, prosecutors, social workers and judicial officers to get rid of the case.
