Hundreds of colourful Ganesha idols - standing three feet to 30 feet tall - left the workshop in capital city on Thursday for various destinations ahead of the grand procession marking this year’s Ganeshotsav. SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan inaugurated the ‘Ganesha Vilambara Yatra’, after which various zonal festival committees received the statues. They were made from Plaster of Paris and paper over the past one month in a makeshift pavilion at Statue.
The idols, which feature Ganesha in 32 different expressions, will be installed at various centres. Ganeshotsav Trust chairman Subrahmanyam Kumar presided over the function. Trust secretary M S Bhuvanachandran delivered the keynote address.
The annual festival, which kicked off on Thursday, will culminate with a colourful procession bearing the idols on August 25.
