THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The latest edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will feature a ‘Cinema Market’, with the hope that in future, it would grow as big as the Busan Asian Film Market. Enlighten Films, Mumbai, and the Kerala Chalachitra Academy are joining hands to open the Cinema Market, it was announced at an organising committee meeting of the IFFK here on Wednesday. It is expected that film distributors and agents would flock to the ‘market’ to select films. In a bid to market documentaries, the documentary federation is organising ‘Trigger Pitch’, for the selection of documentaries. This year’s IFFK will have the scent of jasmines - the 16th festival will lay special focus on films from the Arab countries, where the Jasmine Revolution brought in sweeping political exchanges. Majority of the films at the festival will be from Asia, Latin America and Africa. Speaking on the occasion, filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan said no concessions should be given to students at the festival. According to him, 21 should be fixed as the minimum age for attending the fest. Eleven theatres in the city will be set apart for the festival. Quality will be ensured by hiring 2K projectors. Acknowledging the rising cost of the festival, the delegate pass will cost Rs 500 and students pass, Rs 300. The last date for registering is November 20. Adoor said that the condition of the main venue, the Kairali-Sree theatres, was pathetic. The theatres were infested by rats and the seats were damaged. He demanded that the area be rid of garbage and the roads repaired. One-way traffic should be imposed in the area on the days of the festival, he said. Film Minister K B Ganesh Kumar said that next year, the theatres will be modified for better screening of the festival. The Kalabhavan Theatre will be converted into two theatres. A 4K projection is planned here, he said.
