Ignou Ex-VC denies allegations

Ignou former Vice Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai said that no norms were violated while granting courses to the Sikkim Manipal University and the Punjab Technical University.

Pillai said that both were recognised institutions and not private varsities. “The Distance Education Council (DEC), which is the statutory authority to recognise Ignou distance education programmes, allocated the courses to the two universities three years ago as per existing norms,” he said in a statement here on Saturday.

The DEC followed all laid-out guidelines while granting courses to the two universities. The decision to recognise the courses was taken at a Council meeting after due consideration of the educational standards of the universities.

“Both universities had fulfilled all directives of the Monitoring Committee before they were granted permission for the courses by the Ignou,” Rajasekharan Pillai said.
