New Delhi: IITs continue to dominate the list of top ranked engineering colleges. IIT Madras has been ranked first in the Engineering category followed by IIT Bombay at number 2 and IIT Kharagpur at number 3 in the rankings for various private and government institutions released by Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.
In the Management category, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore is at the first place, followed by IIM (Ahmedabad) and IIM (Calcutta).
In the Universities category, IISc Bangalore has been ranked at the first place followed by the Institute of Chemical Technology. But even amid the controversy brewing over the pro-Afzal Guru and anti-national events at Jawaharlal Nehru University, the varsity has secured the third rank.
In pharmacy, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) Manipal has been ranked number 1. University Institute of Pharma Sciences (UIPS) Chandigarh and Jamia Hamdard New Delhi are at the second and third place respectively.
The list made public on Monday ranks nearly 3,500 institutions in six categories to sensitise educational institutes, empower students and parents along with data processing and verification process. The HRD Ministry claims that the data used for the survey has been validated through international databases like Scopus, web of science.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was launched by the HRD Ministry on September 29, 2015. It evaluates higher educational institutions in Engineering, Management, Universities & Pharmacy categories.
