Kanpur: In yet another incident of suicide, a 21-year-old student of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur ended his life on Tuesday night by consuming poison. The deceased, Manjunath, was a third year student of Computer Science and Engineering Department and was afflicted by polio. He hails from Raichur district of Karnataka.

His body was discovered by his friends at his hostel room around 11 pm on Tuesday. Depression could be a reason behind his unnatural death as he was under counselling and medical treatment. Manjunath was looked after by his mother. His sister died recently while he lost his father when he was young.

The death is the second in the country's premier institute in the last two months. In January 2014, a 19-year-old student was found dead alongside the railway track with head injuries. The student, G Saikumar Reddy, hailing from Prakasham district of Andhra Pradesh, was a second year Materials Science and Engineering student.
