Washington: Christine Lagarde, the chief of International Monetary Fund, will visit India later this month and is likely to discuss various economic policies and reforms related to the fast-growing Asian economy.
Lagarde will also be visiting China next week, following which she would be in New Delhi on March 19-20 for her first India visit since taking over as IMF Chief in June last year.
She is likely to meet various senior leaders and policymakers, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, during her India-visit.
"The Managing Director will be visiting China and India beginning late next week," IMF said on Thursday.
Lagarde would be in China on March 17-18 to participate in the China Development Forum in Beijing, where she would deliver the keynote address. Thereafter, Lagarde would participate in a conference on 'China and India Sustaining High Quality Growth' in New Delhi on March 19-20.
The two-day conference in New Delhi would be inaugurated by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and would bring together policy makers, leading academics and private sector representatives and provide an opportunity to discuss growth successes of China and India.
The IMF chief would participate in the round table discussion on 'Ensuring Strong Growth in the Post-Crisis Global Economy' scheduled for March 20, IMF said.
Organised by the IMF, the China Society for Finance and Banking and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), the conference would focus on identifying policies that are key to sustaining strong and inclusive growth over the medium term in India and China.
Among others, the event would debate on topic such as what financial reforms are needed in China and India in light of the global financial crisis and how can these two countries cope with periods of global financial instability.
The conference is part of the "strengthened ongoing engagement between the IMF and Asia and one of a series of high-level events in the region ahead of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in October, 2012", the multilateral lender said.
Lagarde's visit comes at a time when the IMF is looking to boost its funds as part of efforts to play a more active role in stabilising the global economy.
