Dubai: India was conspicuous in its absence as the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced the names of five Full Members and and one Associate Member who have submitted the letters of intent to host the 2008 Champions Trophy.
Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies have shown interest to host the event while United Arab Emirates is the Associate Member, which has joined the fray.
ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said it was very pleasing to see a high level of interest in hosting the event.
"The level of interest in the ICC Champions Trophy 2008 has exceeded our expectations and demonstrates the potential of this event," Speed said.
"The range of locations of these countries also provides the ICC with the ability to schedule the event at a time of year that will optimise its potential," he said.
After sending the letters of intent, the members now have until the end of February to produce full hosting submissions.
These submissions will be considered at the next ICC Board meeting in Dubai on March 20 and 21 where an 'in principle' decision is expected to be made on the host of this event.
The BCCI has made it clear that it's not keen to play in the Champions Trophy after hosting the event this year.
