The district-level celebration of the nation’s 66th Independence Day was held at St Albert’s College grounds on Wednesday. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob hoisted the national flag and delivered the Independence day message. In his speech, the minister said that democracy is the greatest strength of the country.
“Even after six-and-a-half decades, we are still upholding the spirit of democracy. And to understand the magnitude of our achievement and progress in various fields, we should look into the living conditions prevailing in some countries which got freedom during the same time as India. A majority of them are under military rule now,” Anoop Jacob said. The minister added that along with democracy, the other major reason for India’s success has been optimum utilisation of the available human resources.
He also distributed the awards for the police officers, which had been declared by the Chief Minister on Republic Day.
