London: An Indian citizen along with 23 people of Nepali and Pakistani origin have been arrested in a major operation in Britain to target illegal immigrants who had found casual employment in a salad producing factory.
Fifteen Nepalese and two Pakistani workers were arrested at the Southern Salads factory in Tonbridge in Kent county while five Nepalese, one Pakistani and one Indian national were arrested at residential sites this week.
Over 40 police and Home Office officials descended on the unsuspecting pre-prepared salads and vegetable producer in a convoy of prisoner vans and people carriers.
Immigration officers hailed the intelligence-led swoop as a major success.
A Home Office spokesperson said, "The government has made it clear that it will take a robust approach to removing people from the country where they have no legal right to be here."
