Indian Navy helicopter crashes off Goa, crew safe

Panaji: An Indian Navy Kamov-28 helicopter crashed in the Arabian Sea, 22 nautical miles off Goa, on Wednesday but the crew escaped unhurt, an official said.

Three naval personnel were on board when the accident took place. They have been rescued and are safe, said a navy spokesperson.

The armed forces helicopter had taken off from the Indian Navy base at Goa INS Hansa at 1100 hours (IST) and was on a routine sortie.

"An Indian Navy rescue helicopter was immediately dispatched when we received a distress signal. The rescue copter rescued the pilot and the other personnel on board. The debris have been located and a court of inquiry has been initiated," the spokesperson said.

Air Traffic Control officials at the Dabolim international airport told IANS that the Kamov-28 helicopter lost contact with the ATC at 1120 hours (IST).
