Indie film 'Kshay': Obsession defeats faith
Intangible desires form the basic storyline of 'Kshay' where a simple housewife gets obsessed with a statue.

New Delhi: Independent filmmaking in India has come a long way. Filmmakers such as Anurag Kashyap, Onir and Nila Madhab Panda have made good films which claimed both the critical and commercial success. Though none of the Indian storytellers has gained a status like Martin Scorsese, still their overall stature and market ruling capacity is increasing.

The director Karan Gour is the latest indie filmmaker to enter the market. His forthcoming film 'Kshay' is all set to hit the screens soon. The subject of the film is not at all similar to the general Bollywood films. 'Kshay' is a film about a woman Chhaya's obsession with an idol.

Rasika Dugal who is playing Chhaya in the film says," The story is focussed on Chayya and her obsession with a statue of goddess Lakshmi."

Karan Gour also throws some light on the film," A lot of people make films about different forms of obsession but 'Kshay' is about just obsession."

Alekh Sangal is playing Chhaya's husband Arvind," I am playing the obsessed lady Chayya's husband Arvind who is a construction worker. His boss always scolds him and then comes a point when he leaves his job. Then he gets exposed to Chhaya's obsession with an idol."

When asked about the kind of preparation the team before the shooting Alekh said," The director Karan Gour took absolute care of the acting part. We just had to follow his instructions. We were always given the freedom to do exactly what we wanted to do. It was an organic process."

Karan adds," I didn't have too much money to make this film. The budget of the film is around Rs 15 lakh. We took about four years to complete the film. I got actors after writing the film. Things became easy once Shaan and other people came on the board. I am hoping to recover the cost at least."

Rasika explains the difference between obsession and passion," Well, obsession some times gives a negative connotation while passion is a positive feeling towards anything you want."

Whose character is more complicated in the film?

Alekh says," Actually it's a little more complicated for the woman. I am a catalyst, an observer, I am the one who wants to make things correct, and I am oblivion towards the wife's problems."

Intangible desires form the basic storyline of 'Kshay' where a simple housewife gets obsessed with an unfinished statue of Goddess Lakshmi. She thinks that the idol can bring money and happiness to the family.
