New Delhi: Building on current thaw in their relations, India and Pakistan will hold discussions within two months in a bid to resolve long-standing disputes of Sir Creek and Siachen.
Resolving the dispute over Sir Creek, the 96-km strip of water in the Rann of Kutch, is regarded by both sides as "doable" and the Surveyor Generals of the two countries will resume their discussions on it. They had last met in May 2011.
Defence Secretaries of the two countries are expected to take up the Siachen issue within the same time frame.
During their last meeting on Sir Creek, the two sides had discussed the land boundary in that area and the delimitation of International Maritime Boundary between Pakistan and India.
They had also exchanged non-papers in order to take their discussions forward with a view to finding an amicable settlement of the issue.
In the months ahead, if progress is made towards resolving issues like Sir Creek, it may pave the way for a visit by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Pakistan.
