KOCHI: The bus shelters in the city will soon wear a whole new look as the Corporation has embarked on a new project to renovate them. A total of 58 new bus shelters will be constructed in the city. The first such facility was inaugurated by Mayor Tony Chammany here on Thursday.Set up near the Corporation Office, the new bus shelter is fully made of stainless steel. The floor is laid with tiles and the shelter is designed in line with international standards. Corporation Town Planning committee chairman K J Sohan said that 57 more bus shelters will be constructed in various parts of the city soon. The tender for the same has already been awarded to an agency - Max Media Ltd.“All the shelters will have a standard design. Depending upon the density of the passengers, the size of each shelter will vary. The agency which has been awarded the contract will be liable for the maintenance of these facilities for a period of five years,” he added.He said that 58 shelters will be constricted in the first phase. “Another 15 more facilities will be constructed in the second phase,” Sohan added.Deputy Mayor B Bhadra, standing committee chairman T J Vinod, and chairpersons, including Soumini Jain, Essy Joseph and corporation secretary Ajit Patil were present.
