IPS officers condemn Harishs behaviour

The Andhra Pradesh IPS Association on Thursday described the remarks made by TRS MLA T Harish Rao against West Zone deputy commissioner of police Stephen Ravindra as derogatory and said the police discharged their duties to protect peace and public order.

Association secretary VSK Kaumudi said police officers cannot be singled out for criticism of doing their legitimate duties.

Police personnel were as much entitled to respect and safety as any other citizen besides enjoying statutory protection for acting in public interest.

While the police personnel were dealing with the MLA and his supporters with due deference, the MLA repeatedly called the DCP in a disrespectful manner, the association said.

The incident took place during the TRS MLAs’ protest against power utility’s failure to provide seven-hour supply to the farm sector.

On Thursday the Punjagutta police registered cases under various sections against Harish Rao for making derogatory remarks against the DCP and other on-duty police officials during the dharna on Wednesday.

Cases under Sections 188, 353, 297, 506 and 349 (force) read with 34 of IPC were registered against the TRS MLA.
