The First Additional District and Sessions Judge, on Monday, directed the court officials to issue a public notice.

Madurai: The First Additional District and Sessions Judge, on Monday, directed the court officials to issue a public notice on the summons issued to Arunagirinatha Desigar, the 292rd Madurai Aadheenam, and Nithyananda, whom he appointed the junior pontiff. The Judge had earlier issued summons to the duo on a petition filed by Manivasagam and Sami Thiagarajan, challenging the appointment of Nithyananda as the junior pontiff.

According to the petitioners, Nithyananda was facing several criminal charges and hence was not qualified to become the junior pontiff of the great and ancient Madurai Aadheenam. Therefore, they prayed for the intervention of the court to quash his appointment as a junior pontiff.

Subsequently, judge Rajasekaran ordered summons to the duo, directing them to be present at the court on Monday.Because they did not appear at the court, the Judge directed the court officials to issue a public notice in dailies on the summon issued to them.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka HC on Monday disposed of a writ petition filed by Nityananda seeking Rs 10 crore for the damage to his ashram in Bidadi near here during the search and seizure operations. Nithyananda sought action against CM D V Sadananda Gowda, Home Minister, DGP, Ramanagaram DC and SP, media and police. The CM had ordered the police to seal the ashram and arrest Nithyananda following the alleged assault on media personnel.
