THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “The impact of the anti-people Union Budget 2012 will reflect in the Piravom byelection as the voters are keenly watching the situation,” said Opposition Leader V S Achuthanadan. While talking to reporters here on Friday, he said that the green signal for to foreign direct investment in the retail sector by the Union Government would result in losing jobs for nearly four crore people. “The proposal to increase the service tax from 10 to 12 per cent and the move to impose an indirect tax worth Rs 45,000 crore will hit the common people,” said Achuthanandan. He also criticised the Union Government’s move to reduce the Provident Fund interest rate. While terming it as ‘cruel’, he called upon the people to protest against the action.
