CHENNAI: Regular shoppers at the Express Avenue Mall are now more than used to the music being played at special events that regularly take place at the atrium of the mall. Most of these events attract a lot of attention as regular shoppers at the mall take time off their shopping to find out what the event is all about. However, some events don’t attract as much attention as others do. Rock Out – The City Will Rise, an event to showcase some of the best bands from India, evoked a mixed response. When the Master of the Ceremony finally announced the beginning of the concert at 6.15pm, which was originally scheduled to start at 5 pm, some store-hoppers came to the railings and even took the escalator down to take a closer look. However, there were also those others who didn’t bother batting an eye-lid. On Monday, two bands from Bangalore, Solder and Amethysts, played their hearts out, and on Tuesday, band members from two Chennai bands, Blues Conscience and The Terrorists are Playing, took stage. The Terrorists, who unashamedly announced that they had no idea about the etymology of their band’s name, sounded much less fiercer than one would have expected them to. On Wednesday, Hungry and Agam from Bangalore and Out of Syllabus from Cochin showed-off their stuff to the Chennai-shoppers. Organised by Express Avenue and Avaroha, an artist and band management company, the event is scheduled to go on until Sunday, September 25. However, no band will perform on Sept 24, a day before the grand finale. While most bands have their own set of admirers, our recommendation would be the Shakey Rays, performing tomorrow, and Slain, scheduled to perform on Sunday.
