CHENNAI: Blood donation camps, rallies and photo exhibits showcasing the various schemes of the State government marked the 64th birthday celebrations of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa here on Friday.At the events organised at the District Collector’s Office, Public Relation’s Officer Selvambal said, “Many are not aware of the government schemes available for them. On the occasion of Amma’s birthday, we not only want the people to know about the extent of work she has done for them, but also how to avail them.”Assembly Speaker D Jayakumar inaugurated a photo exhibition showcasing the various schemes launched by Jayalalithaa ever since she took over as the Chief Minister in May 2011. The exhibition also featured black and white photos from Jayalalithaa’s early days in politics, accompanying her mentor MG Ramachandran, former CMs Kamaraj and Annadurai, Periyar, Mother Teresa and Indira Gandhi.The Speaker also distributed the CM’s new Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme cards to 20 persons. An AIDS awareness campaign by Tamil Nadu State AIDS control Society (TANSACS ) and a blood donation camp were held along the sidelines of the exhibition.Party workers and government officials had taken several efforts to make the day a special one, as flags were festooned all over the offices and congratulatory messages put up on every corner. At the Marina, Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy flagged off a rally in which more than 1,000 school students took part.Duraisamy urged the children to plant and grow saplings, in keeping with the Chief Minister’s directive to plant 64 lakh saplings across the State.
