Curfew is imposed in Srinagar on Wednesday as a precaution to avoid any unprecedented incident on the occasion of Muharram.
"Curfew has been imposed in seven police station areas of the city as a precautionary measure," District Magistrate Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Shah said. He said that restrictions on the movement of people have been imposed as there was an apprehension of law and order problem in lieu of some groups planning to take out Muharram processions.
The police station areas where curfew has been imposed include Kothibagh, Maisuna, Batamaloo, Shergarhi and Shaheedgunj. The imposition of the curfew led to traffic jams in areas where the restrictions were not in place.
Most of the schools and other educational institutions, offices and business establishments in and around the curfew bound areas remained closed, official sources said.
The sources said there were no reports of any untoward incident from any part of the city.
