JNU students to stage anti-plant protest

MADURAI: Jawaharlal Nerhu University stude-nts’ union along with ci-vil society organisations will stage a demo near the Tamil Nadu Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday to express solidarity with the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) co-ordinator S P Udayakumar and the Idinthakarai community. Sucheta De, President of JNU student’s Union, told Express over phone that they would demand the immediate withdrawal of heavy police deployment near Idinthakarai. Requesting TN to withdraw its Cabinet resolution facilitating the commissioning of the K-plant, she said that the villagers’ protest at Idinthakarai clearly showed the locals were against the project. The union has invitated all civil society organisations to join them.
