Jodhpur: Juvenile court has convicted an American teenager for murdering his mother in a desert resort in Jodhpur and sentenced him to three years' retention in a special home.
Pronouncing the verdict on Monday, the Juvenile Justice Board convicted the teenager for murdering his mother Cynthia Iannarelli, a resident of Pennsylvania, in August last year in a desert resort, some 65-km from Jodhpur.
The Justice Board also held him guilty of destroying evidence and ordered his three-year retention in a special home for juvenile criminals.
US citizen Iannarelli was found murdered with her throat silt at Reggie's Camel Camp at Osain, a desert resort.
She was murdered on the intervening night of August 12 and 13, according to the prosecution.
The teenager fled from the scene after the murder but was arrested by the Jodhpur Police while trying to board a flight back to America.
Assistant Public Prosecutor NK Sankhla said there were no eye-witnesses in the case which was based entirely on circumstantial evidence.
RD Mehra, the counsel for the convict, said they would appeal against the Juvenile court's verdict in a Sessions court.
A total of 33 witnesses testified during the trial spanning six months.
The boy also wrote a letter to the Juvenile court pleading innocence. He said he was falsely implicated in the case.
