Kachroo ragging: Panel indicts drunk students
Panel tells SC this is not the first case at Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical college.

New Delhi: The Raghavan Committee set up to probe the sensational Aman Kachroo ragging-death case told the Supreme Court on Monday that alcoholism was one of the main reasons behind Kachroo’s ragging at the Rajendra Prasad College in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra.

The Committee said Aman's case was not the only incident of ragging and that the college had had a history of such cases.

However, the committee said students of first year did not report these cases because of fear of social boycott. Meanwhile, the Central Government told the court they are in the process of setting up a centralised helpline to combat ragging

Nineteen-year -old Aman Kachroo was a student at the Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Kangra in Himachal Pradesh

On March 8 this year, Kachroo was beaten to death allegedly by three seniors and an intern because he complained about being ragged.

Police confirmed that he died of head injuries and other wounds. Supreme court took serious note of the incident and served a show cause on the college authorities asking to why action should not be taken against them.

The Medical Council of India had also been asked to enquire into the death and find out if there was any medical negligence in providing treatment to Kachroo.

The Directors General of Policy of Andhra and Himachal Pradesh have been asked to file affidavits telling the court if any criminal case has been registered.
