Former Minister and senior BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh, Kailash Vijaywargiya on Friday took a dig at Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for his views on homosexuality after the Supreme Court verdict on the issue last week.
"Now, the party which Rahul Gandhi leads has to support homosexuality," Vijaywargiya, who won the recent assembly polls in the state from Mhow seat told reporters in response to a query on the issue. When asked to clarify his statement, Vijaywargiya said, "It is a matter of understanding. Such things cannot be specified in an explicit manner."
Terming the BJP MLA's remarks as highly "objectionable", State Congress spokesman, Narendra Saluja said, "Vijaywargiya's tripe remarks have exposed his party's mindset. Before making any statement on homosexuality, he should remember former MP Finance Minister Raghavji's alleged sodomy case involving his domestic help."
On December 12, Rahul had expressed disagreement with the apex court order, which declared homosexuality as illegal. The leader had said that these are matters of personal freedom and he would agree more with the Delhi High Court verdict, which de-criminalised gay sex.
