BANGALORE:  The Congress would move no-confidence motion against Karnataka Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, against whom the Supreme Court had passed strictures while quashing and disposing of his order disqualifying 16 legislators.Addressing newsmen here on Thursday, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwar said the Speaker should have resigned from his post following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the MLAs’ disqualification case.K G Bopaiah had lost moral rights to continue in his office, said KPCC president, adding that the Congress would move a no-confidence motion which would come up before the coming session of the Karnataka Legislature. The apex court, on Wednesday, delivering the final verdict on the case, had termed the Speaker’s order disqualifying the MLAs an act of haste and mala fide, aimed to ensure that the then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa did not lose the trust vote.“We will hold a legislature party meeting and discuss this issue. Besides, we will also finalise the party’s plans to counter the ruling party in the Budget session of the Assembly beginning on January 30,” he said. The Congress had moved similar motions twice earlier on the same issue after the Supreme Court quashed an order by the Karnataka High Court which had upheld the Speaker’s decision, but it could not take up the motion following adjournment of the House.
