BHUBANESWAR: The annual 17th Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra festival of dance and music, showcasing stalwarts of Indian classical music and dance, will be staged at the Rabindra Mandap here from September 7 to 11. On the occasion, the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra annual awards will be presented to two eminent artistes - Kumkum Mohanty in the field of Odissi dance and veteran actress Gloria Mohanty from Oriya cinema - for their lifetime contribution to their respective fields.   The annual awards, instituted in 1995 by the city-based well-known Srjan Odissi Dance Institution founded by late legendary Odissi Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, carry a memento and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each.Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Ratikant Mohapatra, son of Guru Kelucharan and the director of Srjan, informed that the music segment in the five-day event will feature ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, Mohan Veena exponent Pandit Viswa Mohan Bhatt, noted flutist Pravin Godkhind, popular percussionist (pakhwaj player) Bhawani Shankar,  well-known violinist Kala Ramanath and tabla by Akram Khan and Kumar Bose as soloists. Similarly, the dance segment would have Odissi by Kumkum Mohanty, Kathak by Uma Dogra, Bharatanatyam by Priyadarshini Govind and Mohiniattam by Sunanda Nair. He said the objective of the award is to generate fellow feeling among the artiste fraternity.  Mohapatra, who is an Odissi Guru, will also perform solo apart from presenting his latest production ‘Ravana’ along with artistes of Srjan. While Governor M C Bhandare is scheduled to inaugurate the festival, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would confer the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra annual awards as the chief guest during the concluding evening.
