THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government today decided to reinstate in service a top police official, suspended on the charge of making a foreign trip without government's consent and accused of having links with fundamental outfits.A cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, decided to withdraw suspension of IPS officer and former IGP Tomin J Thachankary and reinstate him in service when his suspension period expires on July 10.Taking him back in service would not in any way affect the ongoing cases against him. All cases pending against him would continue, Chandy told reporters.The decision to revoke suspension was taken based on the report of the State Government's Disciplinary Review Committee comprising Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and DGP, he said.The Committee considered the recommendation of the Home Ministry and National Investigation Agency (NIA) while deciding to take Thachankary back in service.Thachankary has been under suspension on the charge that he made a foreign trip without the government's consent. A case for amassing wealth disproportionate to known sources of income was pending against him.It was also alleged that during his foreign trip he made contact with activists of fundamental outfits and offered safe passage to some activists.
