THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI(M) in Kerala today expelled from the party its former Kannur district secretary, P Sasi, who was facing allegations of misbehaviour towards women party functionaries, on charge of moral turpitude. The action against Sasi, who was stripped of the key party post and demoted to a branch committee before the assembly polls, has been a hotly debated topic in the CPI(M) in Kerala for the past several months.Sasi was removed as district secretary of the CPI(M) bastion Kannur on complaints of "moral misconduct" lodged by some of the party workers themselves. The state secretariat of the CPI-M two days ago had recommended suspension of his party membership for one year. But the state committee, to which the matter was referred, felt he deserved harsher punishment and pressed for his expulsion, CPI(M) sources said.Recacting to the disciplinary action, Sasi said in Kannur that he would abide by whatever decision taken by the party."I have information on this only from media. But whatever the party decided, I will abide by that," he said.Known as a loyalist of state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, Sasi had also earlier served as political secretary to former chief minister late E K Nayanar.
