THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government doctors have called off their strike following talks with Health Minister Adoor Prakash. An agreement was reached between the representatives of the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) and the Health Minister to rectify the anomalies in the payscale of doctors.Under the agreement, three increments would be given to specialist doctors and doctors involved in administration and two increments to casualty doctors.It was also decided to merge 76 per cent of the special allowances sanctioned to doctors by the previous government with the salary. The State Government also promised the doctors that all disciplinary measures, including memos issued from February 27, 2011, will be withdrawn. While the allowances will be given with retrospective effect from July 1, 2009, steps that needs to be taken for protection of these will be discussed with the Finance Department. “However, there is nothing for the doctors in the general cadre,” KGMOA state president Dr Prameeladevi told reporters after the meeting, the Minister expressed happiness on reaching an agreement with the doctors who were on an indefinite non-cooperation agitation since February.
