THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The politburo and central committee meetings of the CPM, which will begin in Hyderabad on Friday, are likely to consider the reinduction of V S Achuthanandan to the politburo.Sources in the CPM told ‘Express’ that VS had got brighter chances for getting reinducted this time as he could successfully lead the LDF to a comfortable position in the Assembly elections. VS was expelled from the PB in June, 2009, following his stand against the party in the SNC-Lavalin graft case, in which PB member and state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had been charge-sheeted. The efforts by a section of PB members to bring back VS to the PB had not been succeeded till date as the state leadership of the party was against it. Each time the issue came up for debate, the state leadership levelled fresh charges of indiscipline against the then Chief Minister.“However, things changed drastically with the election. While the CPM was routed out in Bengal, VS could lead the party close to victory in Kerala. The mass appeal of the leader and his anti-corruption image have bought a goodwill to the party,” said a CPM leader. But, critics of VS in the party pointed out that the CPM never equated party affairs with parliamentary activities. “He may be a good CM and parliamentarian. But, that doesn’t give him any right to violate party discipline,” said another CPM leader. In fact, the three-day PB-CC meetings will witness a fight between these two ideologies.  If pragmatist supporters of VS gain an upper hand in the exercise, it will be a good news for the octogenarian leader.
