The monsoon season is one of the best times to visit Kerala. The lush greens, the ample waterfalls and the beaches look pristine and tranquil. It offers the perfect getaway for tourists as well. However, with the ongoing monsoon in several states, there have been many drowning incidents as well that have caught the national headlines and made people worried. The Kerala government has stepped up to ensure a smooth and happy time for the tourists as it is the peak season for tourism and to ensure their safety.
Kallara is a small town in the Thiruvananthapuram district. The place is known for the availability of circular and smooth rocks and colourful pebbles that often become a token of memory for the tourists who collect them. It is also one of the most renowned areas for trekking and offers some spectacular views of roaring waterfalls.
In response to the many drowning accidents and safety concerns, the Kerala government with the help of the local authorities has taken measures to ensure safe tourism in Kallara. This includes the construction of fences along the paths and various streams to prevent tourists from getting washed away. It will act as a safety tool and help tourists have a hassle-free experience in Kallara.
The fencing near the streams and a few other water bodies will be built at an expense of Rs 42.48 lakh from Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) G Stephen’s Asset Development Fund. There have been numerous drowning accidents in Kallara and other places of Thiruvananthapuram district. The gushing water has posed to be of a significant challenge and hence as a cautionary measure, a fence is being constructed.
Despite the serenity and tranquillity of the places, the peaceful streams can have strong undercurrents that can sweep a person off their feet and lead to drowning. There have been many who have tragically lost their lives here after taking a dip in strong water currents and also there was an absence of safety warning in the place.
