HYDERABAD: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has strongly condemned the killing of Mid-Day scribe J Dey, who was shot dead by some unidentified persons on Saturday in Mumbai.IJU secretary-general K Srinivas Reddy said that Dey was killed as he was working on a story about the oil mafia on the coast of the Arabian Sea.“Dey authored two books on the operations of the mafia and was on the hit-list of several mafia dons and on numerous occasions received threatening calls. Police despite knowing about the threat to Dey failed to protect him,’’ Srinivas Reddy said.“We demand that the Maharashtra government which failed to protect the journalist to hunt down the murderers.We also want the family of the slain journalist be adequately compensated,’’ Srinivas Reddy said.
