Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday directed the police to remain alert and maintain law and order in the state, particularly in Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister reviewed the law and order situation along with Chief Secretary P K Mohanty and senior officials in Hyderabad on Tuesday, a press release issued by the chief minister's office said. He directed all sensitive areas to be checked thoroughly and tight security to be arranged at all those places.

"There should be no compromise in strict maintenance of law and order. Surveillance should be conducted round-the-clock all over the city," the release quoted the AP Chief Minister as saying.

He also reviewed the ongoing strike by AP Non-Gazetted Officers Association and the people's agitation in the Andhra-Rayalaseema region, demanding that the state be kept "united".

He asked the Chief Secretary to closely monitor the situation and make alternative arrangements for emergencies, the release said. The Chief Minister, who also reviewed agricultural operations, asked officials to assist farmers as farming activities are on in full swing because of good rains in different parts of the state.

He asked the vigilance wing to monitor supply and distribution of fertilisers, the release said.
