There is a significant contribution of Kolada Mutt in the development of Lalbagh. The place, where Lalbagh is now established, was then known as Annepura, and was a part of Kolada Mutt’s property. The mutt also donated land to Kidwai Hospital, BMTC bus stand on Double Road and many other Christian organisations in the city.It may not be an exaggeration to say that Kolada Mutt is the one and only mutt in the country that served the society without any discrimination. While many mutts were busy establishing engineering and medical colleges, Kolada Mutt was involved in donating land towards social causes.Great musician late Kareem Khan was fostered by the Mutt for more than 15 years. Tamil actor Shivaji Ganesan used to visit the Mutt when he was working with Gubbi Veeranna Drama Company. Dr Rajkumar too visited the Mutt."As far as the present status of Lalbagh is concerned, the need of the hour is to recruit more employees to maintain it properly. I think that it would be better if the authorities make a provision for a library and aquarium. The authorities are also laying cement or stone slabs on the pathways, but that is unnecessary. The pathways should be like the ones at forests or villages, for they are good health. I think the State Government should think of establishing an university of horticulture,” says Shree Shantaveera Mahaswamiji, a resident of Shree Kolada Mutt.
