HYDERABAD: Though about 2,300 Telugu medium candidates appeared for the written examination held here on Friday for selection of model school teachers, the candidates rued losing much of their preparation time while fighting the legal battle.Earlier, the government had made Telugu medium candidates ineligible on the ground that they would not be able to teach in English medium. The government, under the Rashtriya Madhyamika Siksha Abhiyan, is setting up 355 model schools where the medium of instruction will only be English. After issuing the recruitment notification, the government amended it making Telugu medium candidates ineligible. This made some candidates to move the High Court. With the court allowing the government to allow Telugu medium students to sit for the examination, about 2,300 candidates appeared. Most  Telugu medium candidates did not apply as, within a few days, a three- member bench stayed the single judge’s verdict and posted the hearing to May 9, just a day before the commencement of the examinations. In its verdict delivered on May 9, the High Court rejected Telugu medium candidates’ appeal again. It took up the issue on House motion when the candidates approached the court again on May 10. The court asked the government to allow the Telugu medium candidates, who have applied already, to sit for the Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) examination to be held on May 11 and principal posts to be held on May 13.Speaking to Express, a social science postgraduate, Alvala Madhusudan,  said they did not write the examination well as lost most of the time fighting the legal battle.
