HYDERABAD: The two landline phones were off the hook. The college-going boy and the school-going girl are not attending classes. Uneasy calm is prevailing at former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana's house at Minister's Quarters in Banjara Hills here.Ever since Mopidevi was taken into custody by the CBI in connection with the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's illegal assets case, members of his family have been in a state of shock over the unforeseen development. His son, who is studying engineering, has not been attending. Same is the case with the former minister's daughter, a school student. The kith and kin of the former minister believe that Mopidevi was made a scapegoat in Jagan's case. "Venkata Ramana is a gentleman. He never indulged in illegal activities in his political career. But, unfortunately he has to bear the brunt of the illegal activities done during the regime of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy," said a relative, who did not want to be identified. When contacted, Mopidevi's wife did not want to talk to the media. At Repalle in Guntur district, the constituency represented by Mopidevi, his friends and relatives are unable to digest his arrest.Either it was liquor syndicate issue or Jagan's illegal assets case, Mopidevi was made a scapegoat, his followers allege. Mopidevi was in the eye of a storm for allegedly taking bribe from a liquor syndicate member. The former minister was arrested by the CBI on Thursday in connection with Vanpic land allotment.
