Ahmedabad: Eigth-year-old Israr, critically injured in the Ahmedabad blasts, is in coma and is battling to survive.
And recovering in another part of VS Hospital is his mother, who hasn't yet been told that her child may not survive.
This mother-son duo is the face of the serial blasts, in which 49 people were killed and close to 150 people were injured.
“My son was with me when the blast happened. My son is badly injured in the blast,” says Israr’s mother Sugra Bano.
Although Sugra Bano can barely speak due to her head injuries, but she's only worried about her son Mohammed Isra.
Bano and Isra were at Ahmedabad's crowded Narol circle area when one of the blasts took place. What Bano does not know is that her eight-year-old son Isra is fighting for his life, in coma, at the same hospital.
“I just want to go to my son,” says Sugra Bano.
Mohammed Isra, almost lifeless, breathing through a ventilator is in the paediatric ward in the hospital.
Meanwhile, his father Mohammed Jalil breaks down watching his son from the bedside. Jalil, a local barber questions fate and asks why he wasn’t with his family when the tragedy occurred.
“My son is losing his life. The doctor said he is in coma. I don’t know what will happen now,” says Mohammed Jalil.
The story of Isra, Bano and Jalil echoes through hospital wards in Ahmedabad, lives torn apart by a crude act of terror.
