Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed by a voice vote the motion to thank the President for his address to both Houses of Parliament. Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to the debate on the Motion of Thanks, Speaker Om Birla put all amendments moved by the opposition members for vote.
The amendments were rejected by a voice vote. The Congress walked out of the House in protest during the Prime Minister’s speech, while the DMK and the TMC too walked out later, saying they were not satisfied with Modi’s reply on farm laws.

The members of the three parties were not present when the motion to thank President Ram Nath Kovind was passed in the Lower House.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today replied to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, saying India will emerge as a strong player in a post-coronavirus world. “The post-COVID world is turning out to be very different. In such times, remaining isolated from global trends will be counter-productive. We’ll have to emerge as a strong player. That is why, India is working towards building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” Modi said.
Lok Sabha proceedings were extended till mid-night on Wednesday to accommodate members’ participation in the discussion on Budget proposals. K Suresh, who was in the Chair at 9 pm, when the Lok Sabha usually adjourns for the day, announced that the timing of the House has been extended till 12 mid-night.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said there was a long list of speakers who wanted to participate in the general discussion on the Union Budget 2021-22.
