Getting into tellyWhen I was in Plus II, I got an offer for the role of Radha in a bhajan album titled Gopa Gaan Bohu under the banner of World Music. The maker of the album Harish Mohanty had seen me performing Odissi at an event. Even though I was not prepared to get into performing in any kind of albums, my mother wanted me to give it a shot. And it was during one of the shooting schedules for the album that my father met Harish sir who turned out to be his close friend. He asked my father if I would be interested to work in some more albums and my father agreed. This is how it all began. But I must admit, I was never camera shy.Study & workAfter completing my Plus II from S B Women’s College, I got into Madhusudan Law College for five-year-integrated law degree. But at the same time, I was doing ‘Kahile Kula Kutumba Ku Laje’ for Doordarshan and also shooting for my first movie ‘Arjun’. Life was hectic then but I was lucky to be doing so many things at the same time and that too in the right way.Small ScreenApart from Kahile...for DD, I did the role of Roji in ETV’s Gayatri and a short stint in OTV’s Parichay. At present, I am playing the role of Jyoti in Tarang’s Topae Sindura and hosting the health show Kalyani for DD again. In between, I have done a lot of tele-films. Ollywood stintI have just done two movies. My first movie was Arjun in 2005, opposite Anubhav. My last release was in January ‘Hey Sakha’. It was a mythological film and based upon the relationship between Lord Krishna and his close friend Sudama. I played the role of Sumati, wife of Sudama. It was a simple, non-glamorous role.Future ProjectsI will soon be signing a deal for a bi-lingual film ‘Adhunik’, which is being made by a Kolkata based production house. While a majority of the cast is Bengali, I, Mihir Das and Prithviraj Satpathy, my co-star in Topae Sindura, are the only Odia actors in the movie. The shooting will commence from last week of February. I love to danceMy hobby since long has been Odissi. Whenever I get time, I practice. I have been learning the dance form since I was two. But, when I am not busy with serials or dance, I sleep. (smiles)
