Kozhikode: Taking after his superstar father Mammootty, Dhulkar Salman will be making his debut in the Malayalam film industry with 'Second Show' (life has a second chance), to release in January.
"Salman was best suited for the role and that is why we chose him (as hero). Being Mammootty's son is an added advantage," the film's director Sreenath Rajendran told reporters here today.
Besides Salman, the film's cast includes newcomer Gauthamy Nair, who is the heroine, Bollywood actor Sudesh Berry, who is making his debut in a regional film, and Baburaj, who has enacted the villain's role in several films.
Berry, who had acted in films like 'Border' and 'Vansh', a remake of renowned Director Mani Ratnam's Tamil move 'Agni Nakshthram', said he did not know the language.
"But I know the language of expression, love and the language of humanity," he said.
Rajendran said Salman is donning the role of a village youth, who is prepared to do any kind of job.
The shooting of the film, estimated to cost about Rs 3.5 crore, had started a month ago, locations mainly being Kozhikode and Puducherry.
Rajendran, who had worked as an assistant under popular Director Jayaraj, said they had approached Mammootty for his permission to cast Salman in the film.
Mammootty had asked for the script and had left the decision to Salman, he said.
